Botnets are networks of devices that are controlled by a single person or group. These devices, also known as "bots," can be used for a variety of purposes, including sending spam emails, conducting distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, and mining cryptocurrency. The first botnet is believed to have emerged in 2003 and at that time, it consisted of around 500-1000 compromised devices. However, in the years since the emergence of the first botnet, the scale of these networks has significantly increased, with some botnets now comprising millions of compromised devices.
